Mother’s Day in South Africa lands on Sunday 9 May 2027
South Africa marks Mother’s Day on the second Sunday of May, the same date as the United States, Australia and most of the world outside the United Kingdom. According to Britannica, the modern holiday grew out of Anna Jarvis’s campaign, which began with the first observance in 1908 and became a United States national holiday in 1914.
That puts the next one on Sunday 9 May 2027, and the year after on Sunday 14 May 2028.
It is not a public holiday here. The South African Government lists 12 official public holidays and Mother’s Day is not one of them, so couriers run a normal week and the day itself is simply a very busy Sunday.
